Hooray for Simplicity Day!

National Simplicity Day is to honor Henry David Thoreau. Who is he anyway? FYI, he is an author, advocate, naturalist, philosopher, historian, tax resister, abolitionist, development critic, surveyor, and leading transcendentalist. Also he was known for his works and inspirational quotes. Author of famous book called “Walden” which emphasized on simple living in the natural environment. He lived in a cabin in the woods, to live a life that is simple and free from causing inconvenience to other people. He also advised people to live simple. Some of his advises are being helpful to others, and promoting things that would make our world a better place. So on this day try simplifying your life.

Simplicity is Contentment

Simplicity Day was born out of a need to be free from the complications of the world. And most importantly, allow ourselves to just be simple. Celebrate life through simplicity by getting rid of complicated things and just let life be about living for a day.

One of the great conundrums of the modern world is that the more opportunities and options you have the less happy you’re going to be. Some of the happiest people in the world are the ones who live a simple yet contented life. They feel joy just by merely getting by the day. As long as you are with the people you love, there is no reason to not be contented. Learn to make out the most of what matters to you.

Why Keep it Simple?

1) Simplicity is knowledge

“If you can’t explain it to a six-year-old, you don’t understand it yourself.” – Albert Einstein

Simplifying our daily intake of information can have the same result. When we clear away the clutter and reduce the “noise” flowing into our brains, it can be much easier to focus on content that matters

2) Simplicity is happiness

“Simplicity is the essence of happiness.” – Cedric Bledsoe

This is the main idea of the word simplicity. It is to be happy. We all want the maximum opportunity to find happiness. And it helps to remind ourselves occasionally that many of the things we expend our energy on don’t really pay off in long-term contentment.

3) Simplicity is freedom

“Truth is ever to be found in the simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things.” – Sir Isaac Newton

Simplifying doesn’t have to mean “losing” something. Instead it can be a “letting go” of things that weigh us down. Hardship, effort, worry, confusion, stress: these are all things can arise from complexity. Trimming away the distracting parts of our lives can lead to a life lived more “deliberately” and with fewer regrets.

4) Simplicity is growth

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” – Robert Brault

Eliminate distractions and random activities. Learn to say no. These are not necessarily easy things to do, but the positive outcome is that the quality of our lives and work can increase when we simplify.

With less worry and more time to focus on what’s important, we can spend our time more consciously, focusing on our growth and recapturing the moments we used to waste on distractions.
