Did you know that World Book Day was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on April 23, 1995? But why is it celebrated every March 2? It was in line with the death anniversary of William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, a prominent Spanish Chronicler, which were observed in Spain since 1923.

How can we celebrate World Book Day? Find time to do some reading. This is the perfect day to just curl up on the couch or a blanket outside with a cup of tea or coffee or your favorite ice cream and just enjoy every page of the book you are reading.

2. UN World Wildlife Day [March 3]

When have you last seen an endangered species? When was the last time you help conserve wildlife and their habitats? Never? You have to start now, especially you young people.

World Wildlife Day 2017 on March 3 aims to encourage youth around the world to “rally together to address ongoing major threats to wildlife including habitat change, over-exploitation or illicit trafficking.”

According to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), World Wildlife Day celebrates and raises awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. This year’s theme is “Listen to the Young Voices” because they believe that young people, as the future leaders and decision makers of the world, would be able to act and protect endangered wildlife.

“It’s time for everyone to listen to the young voices.”

Grammar Day was established to promote awareness and understanding of proper grammar. So, this is your day to take time and teach grammar especially to those who can’t seem to compose a proper sentence. But did you know that it’s Martha Brockenbrough who started to stand up for the rights of all the good verbs, adverbs, nouns, and adjectives? Yes, it’s to make sure that no more apostrophes would be lost, forgotten, or misplaced; no commas would be left out; no proper nouns would be in lower case again.

So, let’s all celebrate Grammar Day by taking a little extra effort in composing your sentences grammatically correct. Double check your sentences to ensure that messages are clear. Check your previous grammar lessons or seek help with people who teach correct grammar usage and give the grammar Nazis one less reason to have headache. Happy Grammar Day!

Nabisco or the National Biscuit Company started to produce Oreo biscuit in 1912 at Chelsea Factory in New York City. Since its introduction, the Oreo cookie has become a best-selling cookie in the United States. As a matter of fact, the block on which the factory was located was renamed as “Oreo Way”.

And who should you thank for the Oreo cookie filling? It’s Sam Procello, Nabisco’s Principal Food Scientist.

On March 6, grab a glass of milk and a handful of Oreos, enjoy, take a picture, and upload a post on social media using the hashtag #NationalOreoCookieDay.

5. National Pancake Day [March 7]

After Oreos, here comes Pancakes! What do you like most—a British pancake or American pancake? British pancakes are served with lemon and sugar; while the American pancake is much thicker yet lighter and fluffier and complete with blueberries, maple syrup, and even some bacon.
