On September 16-17, 2017, Primetrade Asia’s Fandom Fest Manila took place during the Manila International Book Festival (MIBF). The goal of Fandom Fest was to promote different Western and Pinoy  geek culture through three things: education, exhibition, and entertainment. Through and event like this, it provides a venue for fans to socialize and exchange interests and knowledge with others.

Because of the success of Fandom Fest at the Manila International Book Festival last year, the people behind the event wanted to give the public a better experience. Primetrade Asia, inc. introduces POPHUB: Comic Splash X Fandom Fest Vol. 1. It’s a festival that will feature pop culture, arts, and entertainment.

What to expect at Pop Hub?

Some renowned comic book creators, artists, writers, directors, animators, and illustrators will be there! So don’t miss out the opportunity to satisfy your fanboy and fangirl heart as collectibles, comic books, and a whole lot more will be sold at the event.

What’s a comic book and a fandom event without cosplay? Dress up as your favorite character to the event, or better yet, why not join Geek Gears? It’s a cosplay competition to see if you’ve got the look down to the personality of your favorite character.

Another event that you can join or witness is Pencil Dash, a quick draw competition. So, if you’re an illustrator or an artist and want to put your skills to the test, why not try it out and join?

Invited Guest Speaker

The first announced guest speaker at Pop Hub is none other than Zeno Antonio Denolo with the pen name Zero A.D! He is the self-published novelist of Uberman published by Anvil Publishings. Denolo awarded the Special Jury Award of the 2015 Cirilo F. Bautista Prize as well as the Madrigal-Gonzales Best First Filipino.

Since Uberman is a self-published book, who did Denolo turn to? It was a group effort between his friends and his family who provided him financial support. It’s amazing how Denolo did not anything about publishing, and didn’t even have a mentor to turn to to ask anything about his work. In the end, all his efforts paid when he got recognized and awarded by the MG Awards.

Uberman is your typical superhero – strong, fast, and possesses a special power. But unlike the antagonists in your favorite comic books, Uberman’s enemies are not the usual men who were born to destroy everything you love. Rather, Uberman is out to defeat some of society’s biggest problems. Poverty, crime, hunger, corruption, war, human trafficking, and other problems are just some of what Uberman is trying to get rid of. In this time and age, Uberman shows us  what it’s like to be a superhero.
