Mortal Engines Movie Synopsis
Millennia after much of the world was destroyed in a cataclysmic event, civilization has adapted a new way of living. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, chasing and devouring smaller traction towns for resources.
Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), a low-class citizen of the moving city of London, finds himself fighting for survival after he encounters the fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Opposites stuck together, they must forge an unlikely alliance that could change the future.

Mortal Engines Book
Mortal Engines is the first of four novels in Philip Reeve’s quartet of the same name. The book focuses on a futuristic, steampunk version of London, now a giant machine striving to survive on a world running out of resources. The book has won a Nestlé Smarties Book Prize and was shortlisted for the 2002 Whitbread Award.
The original drafts is actually an adult novel. However, after several rejections, Scholastic thought they might love the Mortal Engines as a children’s story. In the refactoring the story was simplified, removing several characters and much content Reeve thought would not be interesting to children (city politics).
Philip Reeve plans to The Mortal Engines world is to write it as an alternate universe set in the early 1900s. But it will just turn out to require just too much explaining as how and where history could have diverged.
